Bengaluru, April 18 (NationPress) Karnataka's Opposition Leader R. Ashoka voiced his profound discontent on Saturday, asserting that Congress's opposition to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act has unmistakably exposed its anti-women ideology.

“The women of this nation will never forgive this betrayal. It is fitting to disband Congress's women’s wing,” he proclaimed.

During a press conference, Ashoka highlighted that although the government led by PM Modi introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Act Bill to bestow constitutional rights upon women, the opposition thwarted its passage in the Lok Sabha.

He criticized Congress and its allies for believing that providing women with Rs 2,000 and complimentary bus rides suffices, neglecting the need for political representation. He declared that in the forthcoming elections, women would hold them accountable.

Ashoka criticized historical leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi, who ruled for 60 years without enacting women's reservation. He accused Congress of betraying women by opposing the Bill initiated by PM Modi, stating that anti-women sentiment runs deep within the party.

He noted that there are 129 parliamentary seats across southern Indian states, expressing optimism about increasing them to 195. Any disagreements regarding delimitation could have been discussed, he reasoned.

“Delimitation has occurred before, and Congress remained silent then, but now they oppose it. This is a standard procedure carried out by the central government,” he remarked.

Ashoka urged women to confront Congress publicly about this issue, asserting that Congress would be expelled from the country. He recalled that Congress also opposed the abolition of triple talaq, marking this as a dark day for women.

He emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not leveraging this issue for electoral gain. Congress had the opportunity to support the Bill and claim the credit, which would be executed within three years, unlike the past 60 years of inaction. He reiterated that delimitation would also enhance the number of parliamentary seats for southern states.

“What criteria has Congress established for Greater Bengaluru's formation? They have only considered the 2011 census. Yet, if the BJP uses this as a benchmark, they oppose it,” he claimed.

Ashoka concluded that the failure to pass the women’s empowerment Bill is a blatant indication of the opposition's conspiracy, negligence, and anti-women attitude. While Congress leaders make grand speeches about women’s rights, they have not translated those words into action.

“If they have not supported this Bill, dissolving Congress’s women’s wing is justified. Women leaders aspired to serve in the legislature, and the public will not forgive a Congress government that disregards women’s rights,” he stated.

He condemned Congress, asserting that they view women merely as a source of votes.
