Delhi BJP Slams Congress and AAP Over Women’s Quota Act Failure
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) The Delhi BJP President, Virendra Sachdeva, has criticized the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for their role in undermining the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which failed to achieve the necessary three-fourths majority, resulting in its defeat in the Lok Sabha.
He pointed out that this has sparked considerable dissatisfaction among women from all walks of life.
While addressing a press conference alongside Delhi's educational leaders — Rama Sharma, Principal of Hansraj College, and Ruby Mishra, Principal of Bhagini Nivedita College — he emphasized that half of India’s population will not forget this betrayal by these political factions.
They denounced the harmful and negative attitudes of opposition parties, specifically the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Samajwadi Party, towards the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
Coordinated by Delhi BJP Vice President Smt. Yogita Singh, the press conference highlighted that the leaders from these parties, who were seen smirking after the Act's failure in Parliament, should recognize that even the women within their own ranks are dissatisfied and will hold them accountable.
He asserted that enhancing the representation of women by increasing seats by 50% in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies is a commendable objective.
Sachdeva noted that choices dictate the future, and the decisions made by the opposition indicate a grim outlook for women in the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and other opposing parties.
Despite delays in decision-making, he expressed that the opposition must confront the growing discontent among women nationwide.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had clearly stated that any required amendments should be submitted immediately for the bill to be passed, yet the opposition seemed more focused on its defeat, according to Sachdeva.
He highlighted that the opposition misused delimitation as an excuse to obstruct the Act, despite the delimitation framework being established by the Congress itself. Their actions stemmed from a fear of empowering ordinary women nationwide.
Rama Sharma, Principal of Hansraj College, remarked that women contribute significantly not only to their families and communities but also to the nation as a whole. The rise in female enrollment in colleges and their improved academic performance showcase this.
After the impactful success of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative, the introduction of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised hopes for further empowering daughters. However, the opposition hindered this progress.
She questioned how the opposition could even consider a 50% reservation if they were not willing to accept a 33% reservation.
