New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) The President of the Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, criticized the Opposition on Friday, highlighting their anti-women position as evidenced by their vote against the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in Parliament. He claimed that several parties, including the Congress, RJD, and Samajwadi Party, opposed the initiative to offer 33 percent reservation for women alongside an expansion of parliamentary seats.

Sachdeva questioned the Congress's failure to increase the number of Parliament seats from 1971 to 2009 during constituency delimitation exercises.

“We have always believed in garnering Opposition support for this noble cause, which they have denied. They now stand exposed before over 70 crore women in India,” he remarked.

During the Lok Sabha discussion on the Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared, “Women across the nation will not forgive Congress and Rahul Gandhi for obstructing the passage of this reservation for women.”

He also condemned the leaders of the INDIA bloc for raising the Muslim reservation issue, asserting it stemmed from motives of appeasement.

“The Indian Constitution does not endorse reservations based on religion due to two main reasons: firstly, eligibility for reservation should not be obtainable through religious conversion; secondly, reservation is intended for those who are socially and educationally disadvantaged or belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes,” he explained.

The Home Minister further criticized the Opposition for trying to instigate a divide between the North and South regarding the proposed delimitation.

“The southern states hold equal rights in this House as the northern states. Even the small Lakshadweep has the same rights as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Bihar. We must not allow the country to be fragmented by a narrative of North versus South,” he remarked.
