Women’s Quota Bill: Protests Led by Hema Malini and Delhi CM at Rahul Gandhi's Residence
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) In a significant show of solidarity, BJP MP Hema Malini and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta spearheaded a women's protest march towards the residence of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday. The demonstration was sparked by the Congress party's failure to pass the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' in the Lok Sabha just a day prior, culminating in the burning of Gandhi's effigy.
Numerous protesters, brandishing placards and banners that criticized the Congress for its disrespect towards Nari Shakti, marched from Motilal Nehru Marg to Gandhi's home on Sunehri Bagh Road.
They vocally condemned the Congress for letting down women who have been anticipating the 33 percent reservation. Many participants exhibited their frustration by wearing black bands on their foreheads.
Mathura MP Hema Malini articulated her disappointment, stating that it was a tragic day for all women in the nation. “The Opposition has thwarted all attempts to pass the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. It appears they lack faith in Nari Shakti,” she remarked.
She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering efforts to uplift women. “For years, the PM has diligently worked to provide women with essential resources and authority. He aims for women to be involved in decision-making, yet the Opposition seems to oppose this,” she added.
Chief Minister Gupta also criticized the Opposition for their continuous obstruction of the women's reservation bill in Parliament.
“Their mindset exposes their genuine intentions towards women's empowerment. The women of our nation are observant and aware. This injustice inflicted upon Nari Shakti will not go unchallenged,” she asserted.
The protest saw participation from Minister of State Raksha Khadse, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, and MPs including Manoj Tiwari, Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, Manju Sharma (Jaipur), Dharmsila Gupta (Bihar), Luxmi Verma (Chhattisgarh), MLA Shikha Rai, councillor Yogita Singh, Vice President Lata Gupta, and Mahila Morcha President Richa Pandey.
Earlier, Chief Minister Gupta expressed her discontent on X regarding the Opposition's defeat of the amendment bill on women's quota.
“What transpired in the Lok Sabha today is a painful and disheartening experience for every woman who aspires for her rights and dignity. The commitment made by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi to empower Nari Shakti, through the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, was a historic and transformative move. However, the Opposition's refusal to permit this crucial constitutional amendment to progress is a blatant injustice to women's rights,” she commented on Friday.
“As a female Chief Minister, this issue transcends politics for me; it embodies empathy and respect. The chance to involve crores of women in the decision-making process has been taken from them today,” she lamented.
This is not the first occurrence of Congress and its allies obstructing women's rights. Their mindset reveals their true intentions regarding women's empowerment, she emphasized.
The Delhi government will persist in its unwavering commitment to women's empowerment and women-led development under the guidance of the Prime Minister, CM Rekha Gupta concluded.
