Kolkata, April 15 (NationPress) BJP MP Anurag Thakur sharply criticized Opposition parties on Wednesday for their lack of support for the Women’s Reservation Bill. He claimed that those with an “anti-women ideology” are the ones opposing this crucial legislation.

His comments were made just a day prior to the reconvening of Parliament for a three-day extended Budget session, where discussions on amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, and a proposed delimitation Bill are anticipated. These discussions aim to secure one-third reservation for women in Parliament.

In an interview with IANS, Thakur stated, “Those who are anti-women are responsible for this opposition. It was agreed upon in 1971 how many seats would be allocated. South Indian states are receiving more seats than their share.

“Women are entitled to a 33 percent reservation. The parties with anti-women ideologies, including (Congress MP) Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, DMK, and others, are opposing this now,” he added.

Thakur further accused the Congress-led UPA government of failing to pass the Bill during its time in power.

“During their decade in the UPA government, they did not facilitate the Women’s Reservation Bill, but we have successfully passed it,” he remarked.

Additionally, Thakur emphasized, “We promote women’s rights and strive for their empowerment.”

In a related discussion, the BJP MP addressed the situation under the rule of the Trinamool Congress and the BJP’s outlook for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

He claimed, “The public has silenced Mamata Banerjee’s voice. The Trinamool Congress is destined for defeat. On May 4, they will be ousted. This is why Mamata Banerjee is confused and unable to discuss any accomplishments from her 15-year governance in the state.”

Accusing the Trinamool Congress leader of corruption, he stated, “Mamata Banerjee is a corrupt Chief Minister who intervened at an ED raid to shield her associates.”

Moreover, Thakur expressed confidence that once the BJP assumes power in West Bengal, “the state will be liberated from corruption, commissions, and illegal infiltration. The removal of the Trinamool Congress will naturally cleanse the state of all its evils.”

Point of View

Anurag Thakur's remarks highlight a significant political divide regarding women's representation in governance. His emphasis on women's empowerment contrasts sharply with the Opposition's stance, revealing the underlying ideological battle that could shape future legislative actions.
