New Delhi, Oct 26 (NationPress) As the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations move into a critical phase, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to travel to Brussels, Belgium, on October 27-28, according to an announcement from the government on Sunday.
During his visit, Minister Goyal will engage in high-level talks with Maros Sefcovic, the Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade of the European Union.
Both parties are ramping up efforts to finalize a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually advantageous trade agreement as soon as possible.
This initiative underscores India's unwavering dedication to enhancing ties with the European Union, one of its major trading allies, and to fostering an agreement that supports resilient supply chains, sustainable development, and a rules-based international trading framework.
“Building on the momentum generated by the 14th round of negotiations held earlier this month, the Minister’s visit is intended to offer strategic guidance and political momentum to the discussions,” stated the Commerce Ministry.
The ministry anticipates that talks will focus on key aspects of the proposed FTA, such as market access, non-tariff measures, and regulatory collaboration. The visit will also review the progress made to date and pinpoint areas needing further alignment.
Piyush Goyal's itinerary in Brussels includes a bilateral meeting with Commissioner Sefcovic, followed by a working dinner where both leaders are expected to reaffirm their shared goal of strengthening the India–EU trade and economic partnership.
This visit occurs against the backdrop of the India–EU partnership gaining renewed strategic significance after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier this year.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of a future-ready trade relationship that promotes prosperity, sustainability, and innovation for both parties.
The ministry states that the minister's trip to Brussels is a significant milestone in realizing that shared vision into actionable results.
