Guwahati, Sep 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed that he felt “a different kind of spiritual joy” during his visit to Assam, which coincided with the Janmashtami festivities. He inaugurated a range of significant health and infrastructure initiatives in Darrang district, totaling over Rs 6,300 crore.
“This was my first visit to Assam following Operation Sindoor, which was remarkably successful due to the blessings of Maa Kamakhya. Experiencing this spiritual joy in a land where Janmashtami is celebrated makes it even more special,” PM Modi stated at a public assembly.
Among the initiatives launched, he laid the groundwork for the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, alongside a nursing college and a GNM school, with an anticipated investment of Rs 570 crore.
He also inaugurated the 2.9-km Narengi-Kuruwa bridge over the Brahmaputra, valued at Rs 1,200 crore, and the ambitious 118.5-km Guwahati Ring Road project, which connects Kamrup and Darrang districts in Assam with Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya, worth Rs 4,530 crore.
The Prime Minister praised the BJP-led “double-engine” government in Assam, attributing the state’s swift economic progress to its leadership.
“India holds the title of the fastest-growing nation globally, and Assam is recognized as one of its fastest-evolving states with a growth rate of 13 percent. This change is a testament to the resilience of its citizens and the dedication of the government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma,” he emphasized.
In his remarks aimed at the Congress, PM Modi reflected on the backlash his government faced when it honored cultural legend Bhupen Hazarika with the Bharat Ratna.
“Criticism doesn’t deter me; I am a devotee of Lord Shiva and can withstand any negativity,” PM Modi remarked, asserting he cannot stay silent when others face disrespect.
He then posed a question to the audience regarding the appropriateness of honoring “Bhupen Da”.
Later, the Prime Minister is set to unveil a bamboo-based ethanol facility valued at over Rs 5,000 crore and the Rs 7,230-crore Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit at Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district.
