Guwahati, Sep 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for significant infrastructure and industrial development projects in Assam this Sunday, with a total investment surpassing Rs 18,530 crore.
The Prime Minister's visit is part of his ongoing tour of the Northeast, as confirmed by state government officials.
In Mangaldoi, located in the Darrang district, PM Modi will lay the foundation for a series of health education initiatives, which include a new Medical College and Hospital, a GNM school, and a B.Sc Nursing College.
Also on the agenda in Darrang are the Guwahati Ring Road Project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing urban connectivity, and the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra, an infrastructure endeavor expected to improve regional transport links.
Later in the day, PM Modi will head to Numaligarh in the Golaghat district. There, he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Private Limited plant, a clean energy project designed to foster sustainable fuel production.
Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for a polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), anticipated to bolster the petrochemical industry and create significant employment opportunities.
PM Modi arrived in the state on Saturday, attending celebrations in Guwahati commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.
The Prime Minister paid heartfelt tributes to the iconic singer and cultural figure.
Officials have reported that security measures have been heightened around the event locations, with traffic restrictions implemented in areas of Guwahati to facilitate the smooth execution of the events. Hindustan Times noted that with projects covering health, infrastructure, clean energy, and connectivity, PM Modi's visit is seen as crucial to the government's commitment to enhancing development in Assam and reaffirming its focus on the Northeast.
On September 15, the Prime Minister will extend his tour to West Bengal and Bihar.
In Kolkata, he will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference, and in Purnea, Bihar, he will launch the new terminal building of Purnea Airport along with several development projects worth Rs 36,000 crore.
He will also inaugurate the National Makhana Board, which aims to enhance the agricultural and export potential of the region.
