Dhar road accident: 12 killed as overloaded pickup overturns on Indore-Ahmedabad highway

At least 12 people were killed and 13 others injured on Wednesday evening when an overloaded pickup vehicle carrying labourers overturned at the Tirla bypass near Chikliya Phata in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. The accident occurred on the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway, near a petrol pump in Chikliya, and triggered an immediate response from both the state and Central governments.

How the Accident Unfolded

The pickup vehicle was reportedly carrying between 40 and 45 labourers, including children, when it suddenly went out of control and overturned. Local residents described scenes of screaming and chaos at the spot. Bystanders immediately launched relief efforts and alerted the police, who arrived shortly after to manage the situation.

Among the deceased are several minors and women, predominantly from the Bhil community. According to police, those confirmed dead include Tanu (9, Nayapur), Kiran (9, Semlipura), Sumit (14, Nayapur), Ayush (14, Nayapur), Gokul (15, Nayapur), Anguri (35, Semlipura), Bhuri (35, Semlipura), Ranjana (25, Semlipura), Meena (45, Pateliya/Rampur), and Sunita (42, Nayapur). Two additional victims remain unidentified, including one woman.
