Munambam, April 15 (NationPress) Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday assured the residents of Munambam that the key to resolving all their issues rests with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Upon arriving in Munambam, he first visited the location where residents have been protesting for the past 185 days, seeking ownership rights to their land.
“I want to remind you that India, the largest democracy, has a leader who comprehends your problems, situations, and challenges. I can guarantee that the resolution to all your issues lies with PM Modi,” stated Rijiju, as the crowd erupted in applause.
“We are a secular nation. It is essential that our laws are equitable and cater to all. Unfortunately, the Waqf Act previously conferred extraordinary powers to the Waqf to seize land, but we have amended it,” he mentioned.
The Union Minister claimed that while the government was revising the “draconian provisions” in the Act, the BJP government faced accusations of being anti-Muslim.
“We are not opposed to Islam; we are committed to delivering justice. When we introduced the Waqf Amendment Act, I informed all MPs that citizens are suffering due to the arbitrary regulations of the Waqf. We will not rest until you reclaim your land,” he asserted.
He remarked that for the CPI-M and Congress, Waqf serves political interests, whereas for the BJP, everyone is treated equally.
“You may donate your property, but not someone else’s. We are not meddling with the Muslim community; we are merely streamlining the management of Waqf properties,” claimed the minister.
He assured that the new Act will benefit the people of Munambam, and the government will soon establish rules. Once the legislative process concludes, the government will instruct the state government to take necessary actions to protect the residents of Munambam and their properties.
“All of you will be able to reclaim your ancestral lands. Your prolonged suffering can be resolved. I empathize with your struggles. Due to various circumstances, you have faced hardships for an extended period. On behalf of India and PM Modi, I am here to assist you and ensure you will not encounter such challenges again,” he added.
Prior to his visit to Munambam, the Union Minister met with Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil at the archdiocese headquarters and pledged support to address the ongoing issues in Munambam.
“We are pleased that the Union Minister visited and guaranteed a permanent resolution to the long-standing problems facing the people of Munambam,” remarked Kalathiparambil.
