Patna, May 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the newly built terminal at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Thursday.

The Prime Minister arrived at the airport at 4:30 PM and headed straight to the new terminal for the inauguration ceremony. He received a warm welcome from Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and various state and central cabinet ministers.

The terminal, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,400 crore, covers an area of 65,155 square meters and boasts modern amenities.

Facilities include 54 check-in counters, five aerobridges, eight X-ray baggage scanners, five luggage conveyor belts, a multi-level parking area, a VIP lounge, and a cafeteria.

This upgraded infrastructure is expected to boost the airport's daily passenger capacity to 4,500 and its annual capacity to 1 crore, significantly increasing from the current 25 lakh.

The number of daily flights is anticipated to more than double, increasing from 34 to 75.

Alongside the inauguration, PM Modi laid the foundation for development projects exceeding Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, which includes a new airport at Bihta, located about 35 kilometers from Patna.

The upcoming Bihta airport will span 116 acres with a terminal that will cover 68,000 square meters. It is designed to accommodate 3,000 passengers per hour and manage up to 50 lakh passengers annually.

After the inauguration, the Prime Minister participated in a roadshow from the airport to the BJP office on Veer Chand Patel Path, passing through Sheikhpura Mor and the Income Tax roundabout. Large crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister.
