Gandhinagar, May 21 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to return to his native state, Gujarat, on May 26 and 27, where he plans to engage in significant public events across Gandhinagar, Kutch, and Dahod districts.

A key highlight of his visit will be the grand inauguration of India’s inaugural high-power locomotive engine, which is being developed in Dahod. This groundbreaking project, initiated under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, carries an impressive investment of ₹20,000 crore.

After addressing a rally on Mirzapar Road in Bhuj, PM Modi will also pay his respects at the esteemed Ashapura Mata Temple located at 'Mata no Madh'.

At the Dahod rail manufacturing facility, he will unveil the first 9,000 horsepower locomotive engine, marking a pivotal moment for India in indigenous rail production. Over the next decade, this facility is projected to manufacture 1,200 such engines, with aspirations to export them worldwide as part of the 'Make in India' initiative.

Every locomotive will bear the mark 'Manufactured by Dahod', symbolizing the town's rise as a central hub for heavy rail engineering. These powerful engines can transport up to 4,600 tonnes of freight and, for the first time in Indian rail history, will include air-conditioning and toilet facilities for the drivers.

Moreover, the locomotives will be equipped with pre-installed collision avoidance systems, significantly improving safety and operational efficiency.

As of now, four engines are nearing completion at the Dahod facility. Officials project that this manufacturing unit will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 10,000 individuals in the region.

This initiative is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to the local economy, generating prospects in power supply, mechanical engineering, and infrastructure services. The project was awarded to an international firm that submitted the lowest bid during the PPP tender process.

Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Gujarat, where he inaugurated several key development initiatives.

During his visit, Home Minister Shah laid the groundwork for and launched numerous schemes focusing on urban development, health, and security in cities like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Point of View

PM Modi's visit to Gujarat and the inauguration of the Dahod locomotive plant aligns with India's mission to enhance self-reliance in manufacturing.
