Bengaluru, Oct 30 (NationPress) The police in Bengaluru have apprehended a couple accused of deliberately crashing their vehicle into a motorcycle, resulting in the death of one of its riders during a road rage incident. The event occurred within the jurisdiction of the Puttenahalli police station.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Dharshan N, who was working as a gig worker. His companion, also 24 years old and named G. Varun, suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital. The suspects have been identified as Manoj Kumar, a martial arts instructor, and his spouse Arti Sharma.
According to DCP (South) Lokesh Jagalasar, “On October 25, in Srirama Layout, a car collided with a motorcycle carrying two individuals. One of the riders passed away immediately, while the other was rushed to a hospital. Initially, the J.P. Nagar Traffic Police registered the incident as an accidental death.”
“However, subsequent examination of CCTV footage revealed that the driver of the car had intentionally collided with the motorcycle from behind. Further inquiries indicated that the bikers had previously damaged the car's mirror before fleeing the scene,” the DCP explained.
Enraged by the incident, the driver reportedly made a U-turn, pursued the motorcycle, and intentionally crashed into it before escaping. Following these revelations, a murder charge was filed at the Puttenahalli police station.
After the incident, the driver allegedly returned to the location wearing a mask to collect broken pieces of the car in an attempt to destroy evidence. Both suspects were later seen, with their faces concealed, retrieving parts of the vehicle from the scene. The police have also added charges for tampering with evidence to the murder case, according to the DCP.
The couple has been arrested and presented in court. The victim was a gig worker, while the accused husband is a physical arts instructor, according to the police.
The case has been registered under Sections 103(1), 109, 238, 324(5), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, raising significant concerns. Police sources revealed that the suspect driver Manoj chased the motorcycle for nearly two kilometers before crashing into it. The force of the impact was so severe that both riders were thrown into the air and landed on the ground.
The suspects claimed to the police that the motorcycle riders had intentionally obstructed their vehicle, damaged the mirror, and fled, which provoked their anger. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 PM on October 25. Ongoing investigations are in progress.
