Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 13 (NationPress) In a devastating incident on Friday morning near M. Sathyavara village, seven individuals tragically lost their lives in a severe road accident. Six of the victims were on a joyride in an XUV without notifying their families, as revealed by police investigations.
This unfortunate event unfolded early Friday in the Hoskote taluk of Karnataka’s Bengaluru Rural district, where the accident involved a canter truck, a motorcycle, and an XUV car.
The deceased have been identified as Ashwin Nayar (17), Arhaan Sharif (17), Ayaan Ali (17), Bharat (18), Ethan George (17), and the motorcycle rider Gagan. One more victim remains unidentified.
Gagan was employed at a private firm, while the others were students in Classes 10 and 12.
Ashwin Nayar, hailing from Kothanur, attended RV PU College. Arhaan Sharif and Ayaan Ali were students at CMR Institute, residing in HVR Layout. Bharat was also a CMR student from Frazer Town, while Ethan George studied at RV College and lived in Hulimavu.
Initially, parents were told their children had sustained serious injuries in the crash. However, upon arrival at the hospital, they were met with the heartbreaking news of their deaths. Family members of Arhaan expressed disbelief, stating that he had no prior experience with driving.
According to Gagan’s family, he was returning home from his night shift when the accident occurred. As the only son, he was the family's sole provider, supporting his visually impaired mother after his father's passing.
Police reported that the group departed for a joyride around 3 a.m. on the National Highway. The speeding car first collided with the motorcycle before crashing into the truck, creating a fatal sequence of events. Gagan, riding the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that the car was travelling from Kolar towards Devanahalli when it struck the bike ahead of it. Allegedly, the driver lost control, leading to the collision with the canter truck.
All six individuals in the car, along with the motorcycle rider, perished instantly due to the crash's intensity, leaving the car utterly mangled.
IGP (Central) Labhu Ram, who visited the scene, confirmed the fatalities and stated, "Seven individuals were killed in this chain road accident. We have cleared the site and transferred the bodies to the hospital. Six victims have been identified, and efforts are underway to identify the unknown individual."
The investigation is currently assessing whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the incident. According to the police, the impact was so severe that the canter truck and motorcycle crossed the median into oncoming traffic, while the mangled XUV came to a stop approximately 500 meters away.
Officers from the Sulibele police station promptly arrived to commence an investigation. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Chandrakant also visited the crash site. Initial findings suggest that overspeeding was a major factor contributing to this tragic event. The bodies have been sent to the government hospital in Hoskote for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities continue to investigate further.
