Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 13 (NationPress) In a devastating event, seven individuals lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred early Friday morning near M. Sathyavara village in Hoskote taluk, part of Karnataka's Bengaluru Rural district.
The collision took place on the Hoskote-Dabaspete National Highway, involving a canter truck, a motorcycle, and an XUV car.
Initial police investigations revealed that the car was traveling from Kolar towards Devanahalli when it first struck the motorcycle that was in front of it. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which subsequently crashed into the canter truck, causing a deadly chain reaction.
Tragically, all six passengers in the car and the motorcycle rider died instantly. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was utterly mangled. Reports indicate that the six individuals who perished in the car were residents of Kothanur in Bengaluru.
IGP (Central) Labhu Ram, who arrived at the scene, stated, "We have confirmed that seven people died in this series of accidents. The vehicles have been cleared, and the bodies are being transported to the hospital. Six victims have been identified, and we will reach out to their families to facilitate the next steps. We are also working on identifying the seventh victim."
He further added, "The investigation will look into whether the car driver was under the influence. We cannot make any conclusions at this stage."
Post-collision, the canter and motorcycle crossed the median and landed on the opposite side of the road, while the wrecked XUV came to a stop approximately 500 meters away from the initial crash site.
Officers from the Sulibele police station promptly responded and began their investigation. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Chandrakant also visited the site of the accident. Initial reviews suggest that overspeeding may have been the primary cause of the incident. The deceased individuals have been moved to the government hospital in Hoskote for post-mortem examinations.
In the aftermath of the crash, local residents have voiced serious concerns regarding the design and construction quality of this stretch of highway. They claim that the roadway from Sadappanahalli to the Kamalipura Bridge was not constructed with adequate scientific planning, citing objections raised by an engineer during its construction phase about defects in the highway’s design.
Further details about the incident are still emerging as police continue their investigation.
