Nagpur, March 30 (NationPress) On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Dr. Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in Maharashtra's Nagpur and paid floral tributes at the memorials honoring Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), along with M. S. Golwalkar, the second sarsanghchalak (chief).
This visit marked the commencement of the Hindu calendar year and was significant as it was Modi's first visit to the RSS headquarters in the Reshimbagh area since taking office as Prime Minister.
Previously, on September 16, 2012, he paid respects to former RSS chief K. Sudarshan at the same location. Again, in July 2013, then Gujarat CM and Prime Minister candidate Modi convened a meeting at the headquarters.
During his visit, PM Modi was joined by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, veteran RSS leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and local RSS leaders.
He engaged in a brief interaction with the RSS chief while there.
This visit holds significance, especially as the RSS has announced plans to celebrate its centenary by organizing numerous events over the next 12 months, starting from Vijayadasami Day in 2025.
Furthermore, it is particularly important as the BJP is in the process of selecting a new president.
In a recent conversation with American podcaster Lex Friedman, PM Modi reflected on the RSS's influence on his formative years.
"Millions are connected to it, yet understanding the RSS is complex. One must endeavor to grasp its true nature. Above all, the RSS guides individuals toward a meaningful purpose in life. Furthermore, serving the nation is akin to serving God. To my knowledge, the RSS operates around 125,000 service projects without government aid, relying solely on community support. They dedicate time to teaching children, caring for their health, instilling values, and enhancing cleanliness in communities. Managing 125,000 social service projects is no trivial accomplishment," he stated.
