New Delhi, July 9 (NationPress) The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Brazil marks a critical turning point in reinforcing the India–Brazil partnership in trade, commerce, and strategic collaboration.
FIEO president SC Ralhan mentioned that both leaders reiterated their dedication to enhancing economic ties and leveraging the significant, unexplored potential of bilateral trade and investment.
The focus was on diversifying and broadening the trade portfolio, particularly in key complementary sectors such as agriculture and agri-tech, biofuels, renewable energy, oil and gas, information technology, pharmaceuticals, space, and defense manufacturing.
He pointed out the establishment of an India-Brazil Ministerial-Level Mechanism focused on Trade, Commerce, and Investment Cooperation. This mechanism will act as a strategic platform to consistently monitor progress, expedite initiatives, and proactively resolve trade issues. It aims to foster stronger business-to-business interactions, institutional partnerships, and alignment of trade policies between the two nations.
"FIEO views this advancement as a timely and crucial measure to enhance transparency, coordination, and predictability in trade relations, addressing the challenges faced by Indian exporters and investors in the Latin American region," he remarked.
Ralhan emphasized that the Prime Minister’s visit demonstrates India’s strategic intention to broaden economic engagement with Latin America. As a key partner with a solid economy and expanding consumer market, Brazil holds significant opportunities for Indian exporters across various sectors, including automobiles, chemicals, electronics, and agricultural machinery. The formation of a ministerial mechanism instills confidence that policy and operational challenges will now be addressed with focused attention.
As influential members of the BRICS group and leading economies of the Global South, India and Brazil share a mutual vision for inclusive and sustainable development. FIEO urges both governments to work together to eliminate non-tariff barriers and foster a more supportive trading environment.
Promoting two-way investments, particularly in infrastructure, clean energy, fintech, and food processing, along with enhanced collaboration in SME and start-up ecosystems, will be vital for elevating bilateral trade.
Furthermore, trade facilitation measures, such as mutual recognition of standards and improved customs cooperation, should be prioritized to simplify cross-border operations.
FIEO stated that the Indian business community should capitalize on the opportunities stemming from this visit to establish long-lasting partnerships in Brazil. With its dynamic market, innovative ecosystem, and receptiveness to Indian products and technology, Brazil offers substantial growth potential.
"FIEO is prepared to collaborate closely with both governments and relevant trade bodies to ensure the successful realization of the visit’s outcomes, supporting Indian exporters in navigating and expanding their presence in the Brazilian market," the statement concluded.
