New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Tuesday that in light of the escalating conflict in West Asia, it is crucial for the Indian Parliament to project a cohesive message of peace and dialogue to the world.
He articulated that India's objective is to achieve tranquility in the region through diplomatic means and open discussions.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha regarding the ongoing turmoil in West Asia, PM Modi stated, "We are all cognizant of the conflict in West Asia... This situation has persisted for over three years, leading to a severe energy crisis globally. This scenario is equally alarming for India. The war is disrupting our trade routes, which in turn is affecting the supply of vital resources such as petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers."
"Currently, around one crore Indians are living and working in Gulf countries, making their safety a priority for India. Additionally, several vessels with a significant number of Indian crew members are currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz; this poses a serious concern for our nation. In these trying times, it is imperative that the Upper House of the Indian Parliament sends forth a unified voice of peace and dialogue to the rest of the world," PM Modi stated.
Following the onset of the conflict, PM Modi mentioned that he has engaged in two rounds of discussions with leaders from several key West Asian nations. "We are in regular communication with countries in the Gulf, as well as with Iran, Israel, and America. Our goal remains to restore peace in the area through dialogue and diplomacy," he remarked.
"Discussions have also revolved around de-escalation and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Any attacks on commercial vessels and the closure of Hormuz are unacceptable," he added.
The Prime Minister condemned the assaults on civilians, civil infrastructure, energy facilities, and transportation networks.
"In these wartime conditions, India is exerting every effort through diplomacy to secure the safe return of Indian vessels," he stated.
"The risk to any individual’s life in this conflict is contrary to the principles of humanity. Thus, India is persistently advocating for all involved parties to arrive at a peaceful resolution at the earliest," he concluded.
