Imphal, Sep 10 (NationPress) In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential visit to Manipur on September 13, two prominent leaders from the BJP have landed in the state, including Sambit Patra, the party’s Northeast in-charge, as confirmed by a party official.

Accompanying Patra was Ajeet Gopchade, the BJP's Manipur in-charge and a Rajya Sabha member.

A source revealed that the duo plans to convene a private meeting with party leaders, functionaries, and MLAs at the state headquarters to strategize about the Prime Minister's upcoming visit.

The central leaders were greeted at the airport by State BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi and other party officials. However, Patra, Devi, and their associates declined media inquiries concerning the visit.

Preparations, including stage setups, beautification efforts, and security measures, are currently underway in both Imphal, the capital of Manipur, and the tribal district of Churachandpur.

In a related development, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met with five MLAs from the Kuki-Zo communities in Churachandpur on Tuesday to discuss the Prime Minister’s anticipated visit.

On September 7, the Governor also held discussions with BJP MLAs from the Imphal Valley, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, as well as the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Security Advisor, and Home Commissioner.

Officials from the BJP in Manipur mentioned that PM Modi’s visit has not yet been officially confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Reports suggest that the Prime Minister intends to visit Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, to inaugurate the new 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway project, after which he may stop by Imphal and Churachandpur.

A senior official in Imphal indicated that various district administrations are preparing for webcasting the Prime Minister’s events in both Imphal and Churachandpur.

Additionally, the Churachandpur district administration has issued a ban on aerial devices such as drones and other flying objects in anticipation of the 'VVIP visit'.

On September 4, Dharun Kumar S, the District Magistrate, declared the entire hill district a ‘No Drone Zone’.

This prospective visit on September 13 marks the Prime Minister's first trip to Manipur since the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May 2023.
