Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak at a public assembly on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s intensified efforts leading up to the forthcoming Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister will address the BJP’s ‘Bijoy Sankalpa Sabha’ at the renowned Ras Mela Grounds, indicating the commencement of an aggressive outreach initiative in a region that has become a saffron bastion in recent years and remains a vital electoral battlefield.
Voting for the 294-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly is slated to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results to be counted on May 4.
This rally will be Prime Minister Modi’s first election-related event in the state since the announcement of the poll dates.
It will also be the fourth time that PM Modi has addressed a public gathering at the Ras Mela Grounds, having previously held rallies there during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, and the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
As per party officials, the rally will be succeeded by numerous public meetings, roadshows, and organizational activities led by senior BJP leaders throughout West Bengal, as the party prepares for a final effort to win a decisive mandate.
Modi's last visit to the state was on March 14, when he spoke at a significant rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. This event marked the conclusion of the BJP’s statewide ‘Parivartan Yatra’ campaign in anticipation of the elections.
During that visit, Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various infrastructure and connectivity projects valued at approximately Rs 18,680 crore. This included national highway developments worth around Rs 16,990 crore, encompassing over 420 kilometers of roadwork. These initiatives are designed to enhance road safety, alleviate congestion, shorten travel time, and improve regional connectivity and economic development in eastern India.
As the campaign enters a pivotal stage, today’s rally is anticipated to set the strategic direction for the BJP in north Bengal and beyond.
