Imphal, April 6 (NationPress) Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh emphasized on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been instrumental in protecting the boundaries and interests of Manipur.
Speaking at the 47th foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rongmei village, located in the Naga-dominated Noney district, the Chief Minister highlighted PM Modi's declaration in Parliament, affirming that Manipur’s territorial integrity would be upheld at all times.
He also acknowledged PM Modi for evolving the Centre’s ‘Look East Policy’ into the more proactive ‘Act East Policy’, which aims to facilitate trans-Asian highways connecting to Southeast Asian nations.
Singh expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his commitment to support the development of the state and enhance the welfare of its citizens, stating that the BJP is a party that truly cares for the Northeast, which includes eight states.
The Chief Minister reminisced about how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee established the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to promote the growth of the hilly regions in the Northeast.
Singh participated in the event at Longmai Part-3 Multipurpose Hall during his return to Imphal from a three-day visit to the Jiribam district, which borders Assam.
He received a warm welcome from local BJP MLA Dipu Gangmei and traditional Rongmei Naga dancers. Alongside state BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, he raised the BJP flag in Noney town while the anthem Vande Mataram was sung.
Accompanied by eight BJP MLAs, the Chief Minister and the state BJP President paid respects with floral tributes to the portraits of the party’s ideological founders, Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
Upon arriving in Imphal from Jiribam, the Chief Minister received a warm reception from women at Nupi Keithel 1 (Women’s Market-1). He offered prayers at the idol of Leimarel Sidabi for the Goddess's blessings.
On Sunday, the Manipur Chief Minister and the state BJP President addressed an election rally in Rongpur, showing support for BJP candidates Rajdeep Goala and Milon Das.
Goala and Das are running for the Udharbond and Hailakandi Assembly constituencies, respectively, located in the Barak Valley of southern Assam.
A significant number of Manipuris reside in southern Assam, particularly in the districts of Cachar, Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj), and Hailakandi. Polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly is set for April 9, with the results expected on May 4.
The Manipur Chief Minister recently completed a two-day visit (Saturday and Sunday) to the mixed-population Jiribam district, which shares a border with southern Assam.
After attending various events in Manipur’s Jiribam district, Singh, a senior BJP leader, proceeded to southern Assam to engage in the election campaign in the state facing polls.
