New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up to participate in the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati this Saturday evening, the Congress party has launched a pointed critique. They are urging him to truly comprehend the essence of Hazarika's music while questioning the purpose behind his visit.
The Prime Minister is set to join the commemorative event at approximately 5 P.M. and is expected to address the assembly.
Reacting to this announcement, senior Congress figure Pawan Khera stated to IANS, 'If the Prime Minister understands even a single song by Bhupen Hazarika, he will grasp the spirit of this nation. He isn’t merely the Prime Minister to act as a chief guest. The wisdom of our people resonates in Hazarika’s music. He should listen carefully to that wisdom. Take his song 'Ganga' – if the Prime Minister comprehends every word, he will truly understand the essence of India.'
Congress leader Udit Raj went a step further, alleging that the visit has political motivations with the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections in mind.
In his statement to IANS, he remarked, 'It’s accurate to say that Bhupen Hazarika has a significant following. Thus, when PM Modi attends the celebrations of his birth anniversary, it could sway his followers. This influence could lead to a vote bank. That is the real intention.'
'He tends to visit election constituencies well ahead of elections. Wherever elections are scheduled, he starts going there a year or even a year and a half prior. The focus remains on building a vote bank, and the celebrations for Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary are merely a tactic to achieve that,' he added.
In addition to the celebrations, the Prime Minister is also set to inaugurate and lay the groundwork for several major infrastructure and industrial projects in Assam on Sunday, with total investments exceeding Rs 18,530 crore.
At around 11 A.M., he will lay the foundation stone for multiple projects in Darrang and address a public gathering.
Later, at approximately 1:45 P.M., he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and the Numaligarh Refinery Plant in Golaghat, as well as lay the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Plant in the same district.
