New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up to participate in the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati this Saturday evening, the Congress has issued a pointed critique, urging him to comprehend the profound messages embedded in Hazarika's songs and questioning the purpose of his visit.
The Prime Minister is slated to attend the commemorative event at approximately 5 P.M. and will deliver a speech to the attendees.
In response to the announcement, senior Congress figure Pawan Khera remarked to IANS, "If the Prime Minister truly understands even a single song by Bhupen Hazarika, he will gain insight into this nation. His role as Prime Minister should not merely be as a chief guest. The wisdom of our country resonates in Hazarika's melodies. It’s essential to listen to that wisdom. Consider his song 'Ganga'—if the Prime Minister comprehends every line, he will capture the essence of India."
Congress leader Udit Raj went a step further, suggesting that the visit is strategically timed with the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Speaking to IANS, he stated, "It is accurate to say that Bhupen Hazarika has a significant following. Therefore, when PM Modi attends the celebrations of his birth anniversary, it will likely resonate with his supporters. This could potentially create a vote bank, which is the underlying aim."
"He begins visiting electoral constituencies well ahead of elections. Wherever elections are anticipated, he starts making appearances a year or more in advance. The primary focus is on building a vote bank, and the celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika's birth anniversary are merely a means to that end," he added.
In conjunction with the celebrations, the Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several significant infrastructure and industrial development projects in Assam on Sunday, with a total investment surpassing Rs 18,530 crore.
At around 11 A.M., he will lay the foundation stone for multiple projects in Darrang and address a public gathering.
Later, at approximately 1:45 P.M., he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and the Numaligarh Refinery Plant in Golaghat, as well as lay the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Plant in the same district.
