New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Government’s initiative to promote renewable energy through the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar scheme has made its way to Poonch, a district situated along the India-Pakistan Line of Control (LoC).
The scheme was officially launched in Poonch, with Satpal Sharma, a resident of Power House Mohalla, Ward No. 8, becoming the first beneficiary.
Expressing his joy, Satpal Sharma stated, “I am proud to be the first individual to install this solar induction under the Prime Minister’s scheme. Previously, we faced frequent disruptions and power outages, but this will no longer be an issue. I urge all residents of Poonch to take full advantage of this scheme.”
Satpal Sharma has installed a 3-kilowatt solar panel on the roof of his home. The solar panel system, which costs around Rs 1.68 lakh, has been subsidized by the government, with Sharma receiving a subsidy of Rs 94,000.
This solar installation is anticipated to provide 24-hour electricity, greatly enhancing the quality of life for Sharma and his family.
The scheme has brought a sense of relief to numerous families in the area who have long endured inconsistent electricity supply.
Satpal’s relative, Nishchal Sharma, shared his perspective on the initiative, “In Poonch, the electricity situation was a significant issue. Power cuts would interrupt children’s studies and our daily routines.”
“Residing near the border, we are thankful that PM Modi considered us and introduced this scheme. Power outages were a persistent challenge. Children couldn’t study, motors would stop functioning, and inverters frequently failed. Now, solar panels with capacities of 1kW, 2kW, and 3kW are being installed here. The most remarkable aspect is that these panels come with a 25-year warranty. We are grateful to Prime Minister Modi for this transformative initiative.”
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which is the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative, is revolutionizing India’s energy landscape with a visionary goal to supply solar power to one crore households by March 2027.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, this groundbreaking initiative aims to provide free electricity to households by facilitating the installation of rooftop solar panels.
