Empowering Homes: How PM Surya Ghar Yojana is Revolutionizing Electricity and Income in India
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 23 (NationPress) The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, recognized as the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar program, is revolutionizing India’s energy framework by delivering renewable energy while simultaneously creating avenues for additional income.
In the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, this initiative is gaining significant traction, with an increasing number of households opting for solar panel installations on their rooftops.
This shift has led to decreased electricity bills and provided extra earnings for numerous beneficiaries.
The effects are particularly evident in the Tendukheda area of Damoh district, where many families have embraced solar energy and are enjoying its benefits. Residents here have set up rooftop solar panels with capacities between 3 to 5 kilowatts.
Several beneficiaries shared their experiences with IANS, highlighting the relief the PM Surya Ghar scheme has brought.
Santosh Kumar Jain mentioned that he installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar panel system, receiving a subsidy of Rs 78,000 from the Central Government. This solar energy now powers his grocery store appliances and satisfies his household's electricity requirements.
Similarly, Satyanarayan Soni opted for a 5-kilowatt solar connection. The installation cost was around Rs 2 to 3 lakhs; however, he benefited from a Rs 78,000 subsidy. The electricity generated now powers all his household appliances, including the TV, fans, refrigerator, water pump, and induction cooktop.
“Previously, using the induction stove was costly; however, with the solar panel installation, our lives have improved. The electricity department buys the excess power generated, giving us an extra daily income of roughly Rs 100,” he shared.
Another beneficiary, Shivam Dubey, who trades in fertilizers and seeds, installed solar panels on his shop's roof. This project, valued at around Rs 2 lakh, also received a direct subsidy of Rs 78,000 credited to his bank account.
This initiative has empowered many, including Shivam, to pursue self-reliance and provides a pathway to additional earnings through the sale of surplus energy.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, the scheme aims to offer free electricity to households by simplifying the process of rooftop solar panel installations.
The program includes a subsidy of up to 40%, making renewable energy more attainable and affordable.
