New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) As of March 19 this year, 26,19,879 rooftop solar systems have been successfully installed nationwide under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, following its inception in February 2024, according to information presented in Parliament on Tuesday.

The Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, reported that a total of Rs 17,967.53 crore has been allocated as Central Financial Assistance to beneficiaries as of the same date.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is spearheading this initiative with the aim of achieving rooftop solar installations in one crore households in the residential sector by the fiscal year 2026-27.

The Minister elaborated that the scheme operates on a demand-driven basis, allowing all residential users with a grid-connected electricity connection from local DISCOM to benefit from the installation of rooftop solar systems by applying on the national portal.

The entire process—from application to the disbursement of Central Financial Assistance (CFA)—is managed online through the national portal.

According to the Minister, if all required information is submitted accurately, the average processing time for CFA is approximately 15 days after a consumer submits a redemption request.

To facilitate quicker approvals and payments from DISCOMs, the government has implemented an online procedure that allows direct subsidy disbursal into the consumer's bank account via the national portal.

The regulatory approval process has been streamlined by eliminating the need for technical feasibility assessments and incorporating auto load enhancements of up to 10 kW. Additionally, net metering agreements are now included in the application process on the national portal.

The Minister noted that the MNRE, along with REC Ltd, which acts as the National Programme Implementing Agency (NPIA), collaborates closely with all DISCOMs to ensure the effective execution of this initiative.
