New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) As of March 5, 2026, a remarkable 25,02,217 rooftop solar systems have been successfully installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, as reported in Parliament on Tuesday.

In the fiscal year 2026 (up to March 5), the scheme has utilized funds totaling Rs 14,585.29 crore, which is a significant increase from Rs 7,822.92 crore in the previous fiscal year 2025.

Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, informed the Rajya Sabha that 63,26,125 applications have been submitted through the National Portal, leading to the installation of 25,02,217 rooftop solar systems as of March 5, 2026.

Initiated in 2024, the PM Muft Bijli Yojana is a demand-responsive initiative enabling all residential consumers with a grid-connected electricity supply from local distribution companies to benefit from the installation of rooftop solar systems by applying via the scheme's National Portal.

The government projects that if rooftop solar systems are installed in one crore households, they could generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity, potentially leading to a reduction of 720 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the systems' 25-year lifespan.

As of the end of 2025, the leading five states in terms of implementation are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Rajasthan.

In response to a different inquiry, the minister stated that the nation has achieved a total of 266.78 GW of electricity capacity derived from non-fossil fuel sources by December 31, 2025.

This includes 258.00 GW of Renewable Energy (comprising 135.81 GW of Solar Power, 54.51 GW of Wind Power, 11.61 GW of Bio Energy, 5.16 GW of Small Hydro Power, 50.91 GW of Large Hydro Power) along with 8.78 GW of Nuclear Power, according to Naik.

Additionally, the government is advancing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), aiming to position India as a global leader in the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives, the minister concluded.
