PMFME scheme transforms Bihar couple's fortune in Sheikhpura
Synopsis
The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme has changed the lives of a couple in Sheikhpura district, Bihar, turning a struggling small-scale flour mill into a thriving food processing business. Ravita Kumari and Manmendra Kumar, residents of Panapur village in the Ghat Kusumbha block, have set up flour and oil processing units with government support, achieving financial self-reliance and securing better educational prospects for their children.
From Struggle to Self-Reliance
Before availing the scheme, Manmendra Kumar operated a small flour mill machine that generated limited income, making it difficult to meet his family's basic needs. The couple learnt about the PMFME scheme through the Industries Department at the Sheikhpura headquarters and decided to apply for its benefits. Under the scheme, they received a flour mill and an oil extraction machine, which proved to be a turning point.
With access to modern machinery, the couple steadily increased their production capacity. Their income multiplied as demand grew — customers from two to three nearby villages now visit them regularly for flour and oil.
