Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 17 (NationPress) The PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) initiative, introduced years ago to aid micro food businesses and help them evolve into self-sufficient entities through government financial support, is demonstrating significant success.
In the Sheikhpura district of Bihar, the PMFME has played a crucial role in creating local job opportunities, as emerging entrepreneurs have embraced the ‘atmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) pathway to turn their aspirations into reality.
Shashi Kumar, a sweet shop owner, recounted his transformative experience, revealing that he utilized benefits from the scheme and now offers employment to numerous individuals.
After discovering the PMFME scheme, Shashi Kumar visited the Industries Department to gather detailed information and submitted an application. With the funds received, he acquired a gram flour laddu-making machine and launched his home-based business.
Despite facing early challenges, he remained determined and has now become a well-known figure in his community and neighboring areas.
The demand for his gram flour laddus has surged, and he is currently fulfilling orders from districts such as Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Nawada, and Nalanda. During festive seasons and weddings, he experiences a significant influx of orders, with local retailers becoming his regular clients.
Shashi Kumar shared with IANS that he benefited from the PMFME, received funds in his bank account, and established a gram flour laddu production unit.
Currently, his sweet shop employs both men and women.
He has also encouraged young individuals to leverage this scheme and pursue self-employment.
Shashi Kumar's brother, Ashish Kumar, explained that the equipment needed to set up the unit was costly, necessitating a bank loan. The Industries Department provided extensive information about the scheme and assisted with the loan application process, leading to a seamless loan approval.
Sujaat, the General Manager of the District Industries Department, confirmed that the department aided him in acquiring a bank loan. Most employees in this unit are women, and additional staff is hired as demand rises.
He emphasized that such initiatives also motivate expatriates to return home, thus enhancing local job availability and curtailing migration.
