Amaravati, April 5 (NationPress) A police official in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district has been suspended due to his suspected involvement in a honor killing case.

Circle Inspector T. Venkataramana was suspended on Sunday by District Superintendent of Police Krishna Rao after allegations surfaced that he accepted money from the parents of a 22-year-old woman and subsequently returned her to them, despite her having entered into a love marriage. This action is believed to have directly led to her tragic death.

The victim, Chowdeswari, was reportedly strangled by her father in Macherla town.

She passed away on March 18, 2026, and the case was initially thought to be a suicide. However, the post-mortem report released on April 4 revealed that it was not a suicide.

Chowdeswari, who lived in Yadava Bazar of Macherla, fell in love with Nagaraju from Jammalamadaka in the same district. Her family opposed the relationship, having already arranged her marriage to another individual. On March 4, she fled from home and reportedly married Nagaraju.

The father, Chandra Sreenu, filed a missing person report with the Macherla police. Family members also protested outside the police station, alleging a lack of action in locating the missing woman.

The couple was later summoned by the police, and during the inquiry, Chowdeswari informed the authorities that she was of legal age and had married Nagaraju with her own consent. Despite attempts by community elders to counsel her, she expressed her desire to live with her husband.

However, the police allegedly sent her back to her parents.

On March 18, Chandra Sreenu and another individual reportedly strangled Chowdeswari while she was asleep, attempting to present the incident as a suicide.

Following the post-mortem findings, police took Chandra Sreenu into custody and initiated an investigation.
