Key Takeaways
Kanpur, Jan 13 (NationPress) Four police officers have been suspended following a significant public uproar regarding the alleged discovery of banned meat in the Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Kumar informed IANS that a video related to the incident went viral, sparking widespread public anger.
“A video surfaced showing the alleged presence of banned meat and bones, igniting public outrage. Senior police officers arrived quickly to manage the situation effectively,” he stated.
He mentioned that various Hindu organizations gathered at the incident's location, voicing their concerns.
“Despite the charged atmosphere, senior officers handled it efficiently. First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged, and actions have been initiated. A warehouse at the location has also been implicated in the case,” Kumar relayed to IANS.
To ensure public safety, additional security forces were dispatched to the area.
“Currently, two individuals have been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing. Preliminary findings suggest that this may not be a case of animal slaughter but rather the gathering of bones and flesh. A substantial amount of chemicals and salts was also discovered at the site,” he detailed.
Kumar added that four police officers were suspended due to negligence and dereliction of duty.
“We have taken action against four police personnel due to their inadequate handling of the situation. Further investigations are underway to uncover all individuals involved,” he remarked.
Updating the public on the situation, the Joint Commissioner confirmed that order has been restored in the area.
“During the protest, some individuals vandalized glass windows of parked vehicles, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The banned items have been cleared from the site,” he noted.
He emphasized that police are committed to maintaining law and order and preventing any further disturbances.
As tensions escalated, police heightened their alertness and deployed a significant presence in the area. Evidence of negligence led to the suspension of the Station House Officer, the outpost in-charge, and two other officers. Additional police forces, along with the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), have been mobilized to uphold peace. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and assured that the situation is being monitored closely.
