Lucknow, Aug 12 (NationPress) The Uttar Pradesh government has pledged to take decisive action against vigilantism, emphasizing that the Fatehpur vandalization incident is being handled with the highest level of seriousness. No wrongdoer will go unpunished.
This declaration was made by senior UP minister Suresh Khanna during a response to the Leader of Opposition, Mata Prasad, in the state Assembly.
"Anyone who attempts to take the law into their own hands will face consequences through proper legal channels," Khanna stated, categorically rejecting the Opposition's allegations of government involvement in the Fatehpur incident as ‘unfounded and absurd’.
He emphasized that maintaining law and order is the utmost priority of the Yogi Adityanath government, and strict measures will be taken against those who breach this order.
Khanna informed the Assembly that an FIR was registered on August 11 at the Kotwali police station against ten named individuals and 150 unidentified suspects under various sections of the IPC, the Criminal Law Amendment Act, and the Public Property Damage Prevention Act.
"Ensuring law and order remains the government's highest priority, and anarchy will not be tolerated," he reiterated.
He also accused the Opposition of politicizing the incident, highlighting that the police acted swiftly and initiated legal actions without delay.
Earlier, SP MLAs caused a disruption in the House, demanding immediate action against the vandals. Following this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna provided an update on the Fatehpur vandalism and outlined measures taken to manage the situation.
He confirmed that forces from ten police stations, two PAC companies, and the complete administrative team have been deployed to the region.
It is noteworthy that tensions escalated in Fatehpur on Monday when a group vandalized a centuries-old tomb outside a mausoleum, alleging it was built over a destroyed Hindu temple. They purportedly requested permission from the district administration to conduct prayers at the location.
