Lucknow, Aug 14 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party MLA Pooja Pal expressed her deep appreciation for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday, commending his zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities. She acknowledged his vital role in delivering justice in the case of her late husband, former BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was murdered by notorious gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
During a comprehensive 24-hour discussion on the 'Vision Document 2047' at the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Pooja Pal articulated her heartfelt thanks to the Chief Minister for addressing a long-standing pain that she felt had been ignored for years.
"I wish to bring your attention to my personal tragedy. I lost my husband, a Member of this House. This is not a hidden truth; everyone here knows the circumstances of his murder and the identity of the perpetrator. I sincerely thank the Chief Minister for recognizing my suffering that others overlooked for so long. He acknowledged my anguish and worked tirelessly to ensure I received justice," she remarked.
Pal highlighted that many families in Prayagraj have endured similar hardships but have found justice due to the Chief Minister's firm approach against crime.
"Who knows how many women, like myself, have had their 'sindoor' taken away and how many mothers have lost their sons? I want to extend my gratitude to the Chief Minister for bringing criminals like Atiq Ahmed to justice through his zero-tolerance policy against crime," she added.
She noted that Atiq Ahmed, her husband's murderer, was effectively subdued by the Yogi government's rigorous stance on criminal activities.
"Today, not just Prayagraj, but all of Uttar Pradesh looks upon the Chief Minister with renewed hope. The public understands that if any criminal or gangster harms any mother, sister, or brother, they will face severe consequences," she stated.
Reflecting on her struggles, Pal shared that she entered the Assembly representing the trust of the people and has always stood in solidarity with them. She recalled that she had been married for only nine days when her husband was murdered in January 2005.
"My husband fell victim to Atiq Ahmed, and his body was never returned to me," she expressed, adding that when she lost hope in her fight for justice, CM Yogi Adityanath intervened to ensure she received the justice she deserved.
Raju Pal, who was a BSP MLA, was shot dead shortly after winning a by-election against Ashraf Ahmed, Atiq's brother, in the Allahabad West constituency.
Both Atiq and Ashraf were later convicted in a different case, and on April 15, 2023, while being escorted by police for a medical examination at Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj, they were assassinated by three assailants posing as journalists, shot at point-blank range while addressing the media.
