Jammu, Aug 11 (NationPress) Following the triumphant execution of 'Operation Sindoor', a porter recruitment initiative led by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Mendhar sector has sparked a significant wave of enthusiasm among local youth. Numerous individuals from the city and nearby border villages, such as Mankot and Balnoi, are actively participating in this recruitment drive.
The primary goal of enlisting porters by the Indian Army is to offer employment opportunities to unemployed youth as 'defence porters'. Young residents from Mendhar and surrounding border areas have shown their appreciation for this initiative and are stepping forward to be evaluated and shortlisted for these positions.
Asif Mahmood expressed to IANS that he, along with others aspiring to join the Army as porters, is filled with excitement regarding the recruitment process.
Meanwhile, Mazhar Iqbal commended the porter recruitment, stating, “This represents a vital opportunity for those living near the border.”
He noted that such recruitment drives, which occur two to three times annually, provide unemployed youth the chance to secure their livelihoods by aligning with the Army.
Addressing the issue of unemployment, particularly prevalent among those residing near the Line of Control (LoC), he emphasized that this initiative will not only create jobs but also aid in steering youth away from social issues such as drug addiction.
He urged the Indian Army to offer more opportunities like this in the future and praised the success of 'Operation Sindoor', asserting that the entire nation stands in solidarity with its Army during such times.
Local residents have expressed their gratitude towards the Indian Army for this initiative.
Several other involved youths have requested an expansion of job vacancies in future recruitment drives, advocating that these initiatives should be held regularly to enable more individuals to find employment.
