Prayagraj, Feb 18 (NationPress) The District Magistrate of Prayagraj, Ravindra Kumar Mandhad, has officially refuted the rumours about the extension of the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 dates, affirming that the event is set to conclude on February 26, which aligns with Maha Shivratri.
In a conversation with IANS, DM Mandhad urged the public to refrain from believing unverified information unless it comes from official government sources.
He pointed out that the spread of misleading information on social media is creating unnecessary panic among the devotees.
"This is a rumour. The end date of the Maha Kumbh Mela is February 26. The event's dates are determined based on the Muhurat. Until the government or administration issues an official statement regarding any extension, individuals should disregard such claims circulating on social media," he stated.
Mandhad also shared insights on the ongoing preparations to manage the influx of visitors.
"We are working with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that devotees experience a hassle-free visit. Our primary goal is to alleviate traffic issues and reduce disruptions to the daily lives of residents," he continued.
He further denied the allegations regarding the closure of railway platforms.
"No, that is also a rumour. There is no truth to it. Occasionally, we may close the Daraganj Railway Station in Prayagraj, but this is a common practice from the past. All other stations remain open," he elaborated.
Since its commencement on January 13, the Maha Kumbh has been witnessing unprecedented participation. Over 50 crore pilgrims have already taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers converge.
With attendance surpassing the population of many countries, Maha Kumbh 2025 is anticipated to become the largest religious event in history. The Uttar Pradesh government revealed that by 6 p.m. on February 14, over 92 lakh pilgrims had participated in the sacred dip. Originally, the event was expected to draw between 40 and 45 crore attendees, but the actual turnout has exceeded these predictions.
