Buxar (Bihar), April 4 (NationPress) Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar has underscored the necessity for a united effort from all sectors to ensure the effectiveness of the state's prohibition law.

In a statement to the media on Friday night regarding the fatalities linked to illicit liquor in Motihari, Prem Kumar described the incident as tragic but noted that the government is actively pursuing remedial measures.

He asserted that the liquor prohibition in Bihar is a commendable initiative that has yielded positive outcomes, particularly for marginalized communities, and urged all segments of society to join forces for its success.

"The government, the administration, and the citizens must collaborate. Every community should come forward to support the liquor ban," he stated.

In Motihari, six individuals have lost their lives over a span of three days after allegedly consuming toxic liquor, with several others currently hospitalized. Ongoing investigations have resulted in the seizure of approximately 700 liters of poisonous spirit from Piprakothi.

The opposition has launched a fierce critique of the ruling coalition regarding the incident, accusing what they refer to as the "double-engine government" of failing to enforce the liquor prohibition effectively, leading to recurring tragedies.

Tejashwi Yadav, a leader from the RJD, also condemned the event, arguing that it further highlights the failures and significant shortcomings in the NDA government’s prohibition strategy.

Data suggests that over 1,300 individuals have succumbed to illicit liquor in Bihar since the enforcement of the alcohol ban.

Regarding the announcement of the new Chief Minister of Bihar, Prem Kumar indicated that a decision will be reached shortly.

“Please be patient. The date will be determined at a higher level. Our NDA leaders will collectively decide who will be appointed as Chief Minister. All five allied parties will reach a consensus, and whatever is decided will be accepted by all,” he added.

He also stated that citizens nationwide are now desiring change. Prem Kumar remarked that the public has experienced nearly 50 years of Congress rule and has also witnessed regional parties. He believes the performance of the BJP is improving across various states, citing that the BJP is leading in Assam, while significant political shifts are occurring in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal.

Point of View
