Wayanad, Jan 28 (NationPress) Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi visited the residence of veteran Congress leader NM Vijayan and his son, who tragically took their own lives on December 27 last year.
The deceased were discovered in their home, accompanied by a suicide note that claimed misappropriation of funds collected for cooperative bank appointments.
The note implicated several Congress figures, including local legislator I.C. Balakrishnan, district Congress president N.D. Appachan, and senior leader K.K. Gopinathan, as beneficiaries of these funds and indicated loans Vijayan had taken to cover the misused amounts.
Priyanka spent approximately 25 minutes at the residence, where another son of Vijayan and his family live. Following her visit, Vijayan’s son mentioned that Priyanka expressed her commitment to provide full support to the family.
“She has guaranteed that the party will address the financial obligations. She inquired about everything, and we shared our concerns,” Vijayan’s son stated, while his wife added that Priyanka informed them that the Congress party has constituted a commission to thoroughly investigate the matter.
“She was extremely supportive and clearly understood our worries, assuring us that she would stand by the family,” remarked Vijayan’s daughter-in-law. Priyanka’s visit followed the arrest of Balakrishnan by the Kerala Police in Kalpetta on January 25, in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide regarding Vijayan and his son.
Balakrishnan is the principal accused in the case, while Appachan and K.K. Gopinathan were arrested and subsequently released on bail last week. All three leaders had obtained anticipatory bail in this matter on January 18.
The suicide note, directed at Congress leaders, instructed Vijayan's other son, Vijesh, to hand it over to the Wayanad district police chief after a period of ten days, prompting the police to take decisive action in the case afterward.
