A 48-year-old property dealer, Manjeet Singh alias Bunty, was beaten to death in Delhi's Kalkaji area late on Saturday night, while his brother Dilbag Singh sustained serious injuries — including a leg fracture and head wounds — when he rushed to the scene, police officials confirmed on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The incident occurred outside a building in L-Block, Kalkaji, and a case is under investigation.

What Happened at L-Block, Kalkaji

According to officials, an argument broke out outside a building in the L-8, Kalkaji locality, escalating into a violent assault. Police received information about the scuffle and reached the spot to find the victims had already been rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre. Manjeet Singh was declared dead at the trauma centre, while Dilbag Singh was admitted to hospital for treatment and remains under medical care.

'During enquiry, it was revealed that an argument took place outside the building, following which an exchange of words and subsequent scuffle occurred. Manjeet @ Bunty and his brother Dilbag Singh allegedly sustained injuries during the scuffle. Manjeet was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead,' officials stated.

Family's Account of the Assault

The deceased's sister alleged that her brother was attacked in a coordinated group assault. She specifically named Rajji Chaudhary as a key accused and alleged that Chaudhary was accompanied by her husband, sons, and daughter during the incident.

'My brother was brutally beaten. The accused killed him on the spot,' she said, alleging that the group continued attacking Manjeet until he died. She further alleged that when Dilbag Singh arrived at the scene and tried to intervene, the same group turned on him. 'My younger brother's leg was broken, and he also suffered serious head injuries,' she added.

According to the family's account, Rajji Chaudhary, her husband, and four other men were involved in the alleged assault. The sister demanded strict punishment for all those responsible.

Injured Brother Recalls the Night

Dilbag Singh, speaking from hospital, said he received a phone call at around 11:15 pm informing him that his brother had been surrounded by multiple attackers in Kalkaji and that bystanders were unable to intervene.

'The caller said that Bunty got into a fight in Kalkaji and multiple people — both men and women — were beating him up. The people on the phone said they were not being allowed to intervene because the attackers were many, so they asked us to come immediately,' he recalled. He said he travelled to the spot on a scooter with his sister and found Manjeet lying motionless outside a house in L-Block, his shirt torn. When he stepped forward, he alleged that the group attacked him as well. 'They struck my nose, causing bleeding that continues even now,' he said, noting that he also sustained a leg fracture and head injuries.

Police Investigation Under Way

Delhi Police have constituted multiple teams to review CCTV footage in the area and to identify and apprehend all persons involved in the assault. The exact sequence of events, as well as the identities and roles of all accused, remain under investigation. The precise motive behind the altercation has not yet been officially established. No arrests have been reported as of the time of publication.

The case highlights the risks of neighbourhood disputes escalating into fatal violence — this is not the first such incident in Delhi's densely populated residential pockets where group confrontations have turned deadly. The outcome of the CCTV review and any subsequent arrests will be closely watched by the victim's family, who have called for swift justice.
