Protests Erupt Outside DC Office in Jamshedpur Over ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’ Fund Denial

Jamshedpur, Jan 9 (NationPress) A significant number of women beneficiaries of the ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’ assembled outside the Deputy Commissioner's Office on Thursday, protesting against the Hemant Soren-led JMM government for failing to provide the promised financial assistance under the program. They raised slogans, voiced their anger, and criticized the state administration for what they described as ‘step-motherly’ treatment.
Numerous women asserted that they have not received the monetary aid designated under the scheme, and their repeated appeals to government officials have gone unanswered.
On January 6, the Jharkhand government disbursed the promised amount of Rs 1,000 into the accounts of countless women beneficiaries under the Maiya Samman Yojana, yet these funds did not reach the accounts of the protesting women.
These women sought assistance from various government offices regarding this issue, but were informed that the Maiya Samman Yojana website has been non-functional since January 4.
Frustrated, hundreds of women arrived at the Deputy Commissioner's office and protested vigorously, even damaging banners and posters displayed at the government facility.
While chanting slogans against the state government, they accused both the government and officials of subjecting them to harassment.
Most of the demonstrators were residents of Prem Nagar, as stated by one protester.
They justified their protest by questioning why they were excluded from receiving payments, as promised under the scheme.
Several women claimed they have been forced to navigate various government offices with no success.
“We have been visiting government offices and trying to meet with officials. Nobody is providing any assistance. We also attempted to apply online, but it’s not functioning,” remarked one of the protesting women.
Another woman expressed, “No official is willing to listen to us.”
Some women alleged that while many have yet to receive any funds, money was being disbursed to two or three women from the same family.
The Maiya Samman Yojana was initiated in August 2023, originally entitling women aged 18-50 to Rs 1,000 per month.
Following the return of the Hemant Soren-led JMM to power, the state government increased the monthly support to Rs 2,500 starting in December 2023.
