Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab organized extensive protests across the state on Friday, targeting Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa for his casteist and offensive remarks directed at Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO.
Numerous senior AAP leaders, ministers, MLAs, party activists, and local residents participated in the demonstrations, chanting slogans and demanding a formal apology from Bajwa and the Congress leadership.
AAP leader Baltej Pannu stated, "Partap Singh Bajwa's disgraceful and casteist comments against Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO are not just an affront to a Minister but are also a blatant assault on the entire Dalit community and the diligent laborers of Punjab who work with integrity."
"We insist that Bajwa and the Congress leadership offer a public apology to the Dalit community and all hardworking individuals," he added.
The General Secretary of AAP Punjab remarked, "The Congress's anti-Dalit mentality has once again been laid bare before the people of Punjab. The AAP will fiercely oppose any efforts to belittle Dalits or undermine the dignity of the working-class citizens in the state."
In a challenge directed at Congress leaders, AAP representatives questioned, "Does Partap Singh Bajwa's casteist rhetoric represent the official stance of the Congress party? Will the Congress support Bajwa's disparaging comments? Will their President and senior figures denounce him publicly, or will they remain silent as they have in past instances when Dalits were attacked or disrespected?"
Protests erupted throughout Punjab, with significant gatherings in Malerkotla and Ropar, where a large number of residents and band-baaja artists joined AAP leaders and party members in denouncing Bajwa and the Congress's "anti-Dalit" ideology.
Demonstrations also unfolded in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Amritsar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda, Fazilka, Firozpur, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Barnala, and SAS Nagar, where AAP supporters turned out in large numbers to condemn the "anti-Dalit" mindset.
