Chandigarh, Sep 5 (NationPress) Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital in Mohali after experiencing two days of declining health.
For the last two days, CM Mann has not been feeling well and was receiving treatment at his official residence. His illness prevented him from joining Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on a planned visit to areas affected by floods on Thursday.
As his health deteriorated, doctors made the decision to transfer him to Fortis Hospital in Mohali for further treatment and monitoring.
Earlier today, due to CM Mann's unwell state, the Cabinet meeting originally scheduled for Friday was called off, as confirmed by officials. The Chief Minister had to cancel his visit to flood-affected villages in Kapurthala district alongside AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, as he was too unwell to travel.
This Cabinet meeting was significant, considering the ongoing massive relief and rescue operations in the flood-stricken state, which has recorded 43 fatalities.
The government reports indicate that approximately 1,698 villages across 23 districts have been submerged due to floods, affecting over 3.80 lakh citizens in Punjab. Kejriwal mentioned on Thursday that CM Mann was meant to accompany him to the flood-impacted areas but fell ill after several days of extensive touring without adequate rest or nutrition.
“I met him this morning and urged him to rest for a couple of days due to his deteriorating health. Nevertheless, his primary concern remained focused on how to provide maximum assistance to the people of Punjab,” he stated.
In the meantime, CM Mann has ordered that a gazetted officer be assigned to every stranded village to oversee the relief efforts. He emphasized the necessity for direct communication between the authorities and the residents by dispatching a gazetted officer to each village.
