Fifteen teams representing various state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces, the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, along with private clubs, are vying for the championship, which is set to conclude on February 23.

“The Punjab Police takes pride in hosting this esteemed event under the guidance of the Equestrian Federation of India, bringing together 15 teams, 125 horses, and elite riders from all over the nation, including members from police forces, CAPFs, the Army, the Navy, and private clubs,” remarked DGP Yadav.

Wishing the Punjab Police's 20-member equestrian team success in the championship, the DGP noted that the team will be led by DIG (Administration) Inderbir Singh and will compete with 24 horses.

This marks the first occasion that an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer has qualified in the national qualifiers and is participating in the National Equestrian Championship.

Members of an international jury have been appointed by the Equestrian Federation of India in New Delhi to oversee and judge the events during this championship, with 15 to 20 international competitors joining from various teams.

“This championship celebrates skill, discipline, and tradition, and I am particularly proud to see an IPS officer competing for the first time after qualifying at the national level,” expressed DGP Yadav.

Importantly, the Indian team will be chosen for international competitions scheduled for 2025-26 based on the performance of players during this National Tent Pegging Championship.

As the chief patron of the National Equestrian Championship, DGP Yadav also encouraged the public and equestrian enthusiasts to attend this magnificent event. He mentioned that there is no separate ticket required to observe the championship. A total of 125 riders, along with an equal number of their horses, will take part in the championship organized under the auspices of the Equestrian Federation of India. This championship was previously held in 2016 and 2017 at the PAP Campus in Jalandhar.
