Chandigarh, Nov 27 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) dismantled a drug trafficking network by apprehending a drug dealer and seizing 5.084 kg of heroin, 1.681 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), and Rs 6.50 lakh in drug-related currency, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The operation was executed by the ANTF's Ropar Range. The suspect has been identified as Akashdeep Singh, who hails from Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran.
In addition to the drugs and cash, law enforcement officials also retrieved a leather bag, two electronic weighing devices, and confiscated his white Chevrolet Cruze (DL 82 AP 9522), which was utilized for transporting the illicit substances.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations have uncovered connections between the detainee and a significant handler who orchestrates the distribution and delivery of drug shipments.
The DGP emphasized that ongoing investigations aim to identify both upstream and downstream connections to fully dismantle the network.
Detailing the operation, AIG (ANTF – Ropar Range) A.S. Aulakh stated that acting on precise intelligence regarding the suspect and his accomplices, a raid was conducted at a flat in Nature Hut 3 in Kharar. The ANTF team, led by DSP Yogesh Kumar, successfully apprehended Akashdeep, while two of his accomplices escaped by leaping from the balcony into an adjacent vacant lot.
The AIG confirmed that investigations continue, with efforts underway to capture the two fugitives. More recoveries are anticipated in the forthcoming days. A case was filed on November 24 under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Mohali Police Station.
