Punjab Unveils Innovative School Attendance Tracking Initiative
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, April 9 (NationPress) Punjab has advanced its Sikhya Kranti (education revolution) to a new level, as Education Minister Harjot Bains and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia inaugurated Mission Samrath 4.0 on Thursday. This foundational learning initiative is designed to achieve global standards of excellence in education.
This new phase introduces a comprehensive attendance-tracking system across the state, enabling parents to receive daily SMS notifications about their child’s attendance. This initiative marks a significant transition towards real-time accountability and enhanced learning continuity within classrooms.
Bains emphasized that this initiative represents a major advancement in the state’s educational transformation. Punjab, which currently holds the top position in the PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) survey, is now shifting focus from acknowledgment to tangible results by enhancing classroom accountability and implementing effective teaching methodologies.
The Education Minister pointed out that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has increased the education budget to Rs 19,279 crore, ensuring that funds are allocated directly to classrooms instead of remaining unutilized. This investment is driving significant improvements from basic infrastructure to measurable educational outcomes across government schools.
Highlighting Punjab’s leading position in the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, he stated that the attendance-tracking system is an integral part of Mission Samrath 2026-27.
Bains stated, “Parents will receive daily SMS updates regarding their child’s attendance, including alerts for each absence. This aims to enhance regular attendance, sustain learning continuity, and foster classroom engagement. Should a child be absent for seven days, a district-level parent contact will be initiated, while absences exceeding 15 days will be reported to state headquarters, ensuring both educational continuity and child safety.”
The minister further emphasized the program's impact, stating, “Mission Samrath has revolutionized classroom dynamics. This phase aims to improve teaching quality and accountability through attendance monitoring, better oversight, and sharing successful strategies. Our objective is to guarantee that every child attains a solid foundation in learning.”
