Chandigarh, March 9 (NationPress) In anticipation of Holi, the Punjab Police executed a comprehensive cordon and search operation (CASO) across 262 bus stands on Sunday. This initiative was instigated under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, spanning all 28 police districts.
Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) for Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, personally supervised this extensive operation at the state level. He instructed all Police Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to guarantee a strong police presence, overseen by Superintendent of Police (SP)-rank officers, to ensure the operation's success.
During the operation, police teams, aided by sniffer dogs, conducted thorough checks of individuals arriving and leaving at the bus stands. Additionally, they apprehended suspicious individuals for further verification.
“All police personnel were firmly directed to interact with every individual in a friendly and courteous manner while conducting their checks during this operation,” he stated.
The Special DGP disclosed that a total of 400 police teams, comprising over 3,000 officers, were deployed statewide, supervised by 121 gazetted rank officers, to identify suspicious individuals at various bus stands while minimizing public disruption.
Approximately 3,868 individuals were inspected during the operation at around 262 bus stands, with 175 individuals taken in for questioning.
During this operation, police teams registered two criminal cases and confiscated 100 grams of heroin, he noted.
Additionally, police teams conducted vehicle checks in and around the bus stands. A total of 208 vehicles were fined, and 14 vehicles were impounded, he added.
Special DGP Shukla emphasized that similar operations will persist to maintain peace and harmony in the border state.
