Chandigarh, Feb 18 (NationPress) Punjab's Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat announced on Wednesday that the state is poised for a significant transformation in the horticulture domain with a proposed funding of approximately Rs 1,300 crore. This investment aims to enhance farmers’ earnings and generate fresh avenues for value addition and export opportunities.
During a press conference, the minister indicated that Punjab intends to incorporate successful strategies from the Maharashtra horticulture model to ensure that local farmers can achieve improved profits via organized farming, effective processing, and enhanced market linkages.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was executed with Sahyadri Farmers Producer Company Ltd located in Nashik, Maharashtra, to fortify Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Punjab by providing training and institutional backing.
Bhagat mentioned that his trip to Nashik proved beneficial as the delegation learned how farmers can collaboratively enhance production, grading, packaging, processing, and exports through FPOs.
He emphasized that Sahyadri collaborates with thousands of farmers across over 30,000 acres and exports fruits and vegetables to 42 countries, exemplifying how collective efforts can lead to prosperity for farmers.
