Earlier in the week, the Vice President raised concerns regarding the escalating issue of fake news and misinformation, urging journalists to uphold the truth.
During his address at the 57th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in New Delhi, he called on graduates in mass communication to be catalysts for positive change in society.
He emphasized the crucial role of journalism and mass communication in the nation’s pursuit of Viksit Bharat.
Highlighting the impact of the written word, the Vice President encouraged opinion leaders to guide the nation by fostering a positive narrative based on truth. "Write truthfully and courageously, and you will contribute to Viksit Bharat," he advised the graduating cohort.
He urged them to prioritize the integrity and correctness of their writing over popularity metrics or shortcuts.
Reflecting on his admiration for renowned journalist A.N. Sivaraman, the former Editor of Dinamani, he noted that socially aware and informative journalism has the potential to shape and create leaders.
