Manohar Lal updated the Vice President on the advancements made under flagship missions such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U), Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban, and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). These initiatives focus on affordable housing, enhancing urban services, and promoting sustainable and resilient urban environments.
The Ministry of Power showcased the robust growth of India’s power sector, highlighting the expansion of generation capacity, modernization of grid systems, and innovations in renewable energy integration, energy storage solutions, and improved energy efficiency strategies through the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
The Vice President acknowledged that both urban development and the power sector are pivotal to India’s economic progress and commended the determined efforts of both Ministries.
He stressed that sustainable, well-planned cities and dependable, affordable electricity are fundamental components in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
This meeting took place just ahead of the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament set to commence on December 1.
The session, anticipated to last until at least December 19, will also mark Radhakrishnan’s first term as Rajya Sabha Chairman. He assumed office as the 15th Vice President on September 12.
Last month, Radhakrishnan toured various sections of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat at Parliament House, engaging with staff members and appreciating their contributions to the efficient operation of the Rajya Sabha.
