Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) During his journey to Bhopal, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, paused his convoy to assist an injured autorickshaw driver he encountered outside his home. Upon noticing the driver in distress, the Congress MP exited his vehicle to offer support and inquire about his condition.
In a display of concern, LoP Rahul Gandhi directed his aides to arrange for immediate medical assistance for the injured driver.
The driver later shared with IANS, "Rahul Gandhi asked how I sustained my injuries, and I explained the situation. He advised me to go to the hospital for treatment."
At the same time, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress President, are set to lead a significant protest in Bhopal against the interim India-US trade framework. The party contends that this deal profoundly disadvantages Indian farmers by allowing cheaper imports from the US.
According to Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari, the event on February 24, 2026, in Bhopal aims to advocate for farmers' rights against the perceived injustices of the India-US trade agreement.
Patwari further accused the government of capitulating to US demands, asserting that the arrangement has already led to reduced prices for essential crops like soybean, cotton, and maize.
He characterized the trade deal as a "compromise deal" forced upon farmers, stating that it is detrimental to Madhya Pradesh's soybean, maize, and cotton farmers and their families.
The February 24 gathering represents the party's dedication to championing farmers' rights across the country. The protest will take the form of a Kisan Sammelan (farmers' convention) in Bhopal, launching a focused campaign in states vulnerable to these changes, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Bihar.
Providing further details, Mukesh Nayak, the Madhya Pradesh Congress media in-charge and former minister, informed IANS that over one lakh farmers from the state are expected to attend the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' at Atal Path in the Jawahar Chowk area.
Nayak announced that the program will commence around 2 PM with the arrival of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in Bhopal. He revealed that two large domes and a massive stage are being prepared for the event, which will host nearly 250 leaders and officials.
