New Delhi, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi expressed profound grief over the devastating loss of numerous lives, including children, in a series of accidents that occurred during Durga idol immersion ceremonies in Madhya Pradesh.
In an emotional post on the social media platform X, LoP Rahul Gandhi extended his heartfelt condolences to the families in mourning and wished for a quick recovery for those injured.
"The tragic deaths of many individuals, primarily children, in the accidents during the idol immersions in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, are incredibly heartbreaking," LoP Rahul Gandhi shared.
"During this time of sorrow, my thoughts are with the grieving families and the parents of the children. I pray for the rapid healing of those who were hurt in the incidents."
The tragic events unfolded on Thursday evening across various districts of Madhya Pradesh, with the most severe incident occurring in Jamli village, located in Khandwa district.
A tractor-trolley, carrying approximately 30 individuals, predominantly women and children, overturned into a deep lake while on its way to immerse a Durga idol.
At least 10 casualties have been confirmed, with several others injured and some still missing.
In a separate incident in Shahdol district, two young men were swept away by the river during immersion rituals. Another mishap in Anjangaon village of Khandwa resulted in a vehicle running over a procession, leading to one death and four injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the victims and guaranteed appropriate medical care for the injured.
